SAMUEL HOLLINGER 1938 - 2008 A great man… … a great legacy! |

Sam endured several health issues over the past few years. He was hit by a car whilst on holiday in Tenerife, and sustained significant injuries. In 2005 he had a serious heart attack and subsequently suffered kidney failure. The kidney failure also lead to other ongoing issues with his health, but through it all, he never complained, always pushed the boundaries of what was possible and lived life to the full, maintaining his infectious positive attitude and ‘never say die’ spirit. Over the final few weeks he felt particularly unwell. At first the doctors just felt it was some form of infection and treated him with antibiotics, but after the results of a scan, it was apparent that he had liver cancer. The initial assessment was that he had weeks to live, but those weeks became days, as his condition deteriorated rapidly. He died at 9.28pm on Monday 22nd September 2008. Amidst the pain, the final few days were a really special time for the whole family and when he died, he was closer to his family and closer to God than ever before. We are so sad to lose him, but have a real faith and trust in God that this was his time. I will never forget the way he handled those final days and I am so proud of him! He was a great character, wonderful father and amazing friend! He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. But his legacy lives on, and as a family and a business, we are committed to building on that legacy! |
